Weekly Wisereads: Frequently Asked Questions

What is Weekly Wisereads?

Weekly Wisereads is a newsletter containing the most highlighted documents in Readwise during the previous week. Specifically, the Wisereads algorithm looks at the number of unique highlighters to rank web articles, YouTube videos, tweets, and publicly-saved PDFs. Additionally, we incorporate an ebook by curating publicly available, non-DRM EPUBs or partnering with self-published & published authors. These typically authors recommend the RSS feed at the end of each Wisereads.

What about more specific topics, personalized recommendations, and inclusivity?

We appreciate that “popular” articles are not for everyone. Further, we recognize that a most highlighted algorithm is subject to the bias of our user base which might overrepresent certain topics or voices while underrepresenting other, equally important stories. We hope to balance this out over time by enabling users to personalize their newsletters through AI-generated recommendations or manually selecting topics of interest. Until then, what Readwise users actually read and highlight seems to select for fairly high quality, interesting content for the average Readwise user.

How does the Wisereads algorithm use my data?

We take privacy seriously so any privately saved documents (e.g. forwarded emails, uploaded files, paywalled articles, etc) and their highlights are never indexed for Wisereads or other features. The only content considered by the Wisereads algorithm are highlighted documents that can be publicly saved from the internet.

How can I receive Wisereads in Reader rather than email?

You can subscribe to the Wisereads RSS feed in lieu of the email. The easiest way to subscribe is to click the Open in Reader link in the top right of the email and then click the Subscribe button in the right sidebar of the Reader app. You can then unsubscribe from the Wisereads email.

How do I save my own content to Reader?

There are several ways you can save content to Reader, but the remainder of this brief guide outlines the most recommended methods for saving different kinds of documents to your account including web articles, YouTube videos, Tweets and threads, EPUBs, PDFs, and RSS feeds.

Saving Web Articles

The best way to save web articles (and most other types of content) is to install the combination of (1) the browser extension on your computer and (2) the mobile app on your iOS or Android device.

Once you’ve installed the extension, you can save articles while browsing by clicking the yellow extension icon in the upper right of your web browser. (If you’ve just installed the extension, you might need to “pin” it to the address bar by first clicking the puzzle piece to reveal all extensions.)

Save-Articles-with-Browser-Extension

Once you’ve installed the mobile app, you can save articles from other apps (such as your mobile browser) by tapping into the share sheet and selecting Save to Reader.

These methods save not only web content but also every other type of content, as you’ll see below.

Saving YouTube Videos

You can save YouTube videos with their transcripts to Reader just like you would save a web article:

  • On your computer, click the yellow extension icon in the upper right of your web browser on any YouTube video you want to save.
  • On your mobile device, tap into the share sheet from within the YouTube app or mobile browser and select Save to Reader.

Saving Tweets & Threads

You can save both individual tweets (of any length) and entire Twitter threads to Reader just like you would save a web article:

  • On your computer, click the yellow extension icon in the upper right of your web browser on an individual tweet or Twitter thread you want to save.
  • On your mobile device, tap into the share sheet from within the Twitter app or Twitter website and select Save to Reader.

Uploading EPUB files

You can save EPUBs to Reader by uploading the file:

  • On your computer, drag the file from your file explorer and drop it onto the Reader app.
  • On your mobile device, launch the share sheet and select Save to Reader.

Uploading PDF files

You can save PDFs to Reader by uploading the file just like an EPUB:

  • On your computer, drag the file from your file explorer and drop it onto the Reader app.
  • On your mobile device, launch the share sheet and select Save to Reader.

Subscribing to RSS feeds

You can subscribe to an RSS feed by tapping the Subscribe button in the right sidebar of any article where Reader detects an associated feed.
